The Mind and Imagination of C.S. Lewis | 2023 Biographical Sermon
CrossWay has historically set aside Reformation Sunday each year to do a biographical sermon. These are sermons in which the life and ministry of a particular individual are essentially used as an extended illustration of something we learn from scripture. This year, on Sunday, October 29th, Kirk will be preaching on the life and mind of C.S. Lewis, particularly Lewis' writing ministry.

Instruction
Gospel-Shaped Cultural Engagement (Training Seminar) | Sun., Sept 3rd-Oct 22nd *EXTENDED* | 8:45 AM | Alverno
How should Christians faithfully engage our increasingly post-Christian culture? Join Kirk for this four-week training seminar and group discussion utilizing Russell Moore's book Onward: Engaging the Culture Without Losing the Gospel. The so-called "foolish" gospel would call us to embrace the “strangeness” of Christianity. Thus, the Christian mission has great potential precisely in a society where a Christian veneer of nominalism is now out of style. Attendees are encouraged to read or listen to the book (find the reading schedule here). But doing so is not required in order to participate.
Habits of Grace (Core Seminar) | Sun., Oct 29th-Dec 17th | 8:45 AM | Alverno
Spiritual disciplines are those habits such as prayer, meditation, and fasting through which God’s people aim to grow in godliness. For this Training Seminar, led by Kirk, we will read through Habits of Grace by David Mathis, and meet to discuss. Although reading the book is recommended (reading schedule can be found here), we welcome your attendance regardless.
Monthly Children's Material
This month, our children will continue to work through their Gospel Story Bible lessons, the New City Catechism, our hymn of the month, and their monthly memory verse. Be sure to grab a copy of the hand motions for the memory verse at our Resource Table. View the full schedule and access these materials on our members' webpage. Parents, we encourage you to use and reinforce this material with your children in your family devotions!
Dominion and Dynasty by Stephen Dempster | Book Recommendation
Have you ever read a portion of the Old Testament and wondered to yourself, "What does any of this have to do with the larger story of the Bible?" In this book, Stephen Dempster helps us grasp the grand story of the Hebrew Bible by examining the twin themes of genealogy and geography (seed and land). Dempster takes us on a journey through the Old Testament, showing us how it's not just a random collection of stories but a carefully woven narrative that brings coherence to the Bible's overall message.

Current Series - The Gospel According to Mark | The Unexpected King
According to Mark, Jesus is the coming King who is bringing God's kingdom. But the sort of King he is, and the sort of kingdom he brings, is quite unexpected. Jesus is a king who suffers and serves. And he calls his followers, the citizens of his kingdom, to do likewise—to walk in his way and carry their cross.
