Elder Candidate | Nick Matula
The elders are bringing forward Nick Matula as a candidate for eldership. You can read here to learn more about our understanding of the Biblical office of eldership, as well as CrossWay’s particular process of elder training, screening, and appointment (see also our Constitution & ByLaws). At this time, we ask that you prayerfully consider Nick according to the qualifications given to us in Titus 1:5-9 and 1 Tim 3:1-7, and speak privately to existing elders about any questions or concerns you might have. Barring any changes, a congregational vote will eventually be held for his appointment.

Marriage Cohort | Second Sundays of the Month | 3:30 - 5 PM | Starting in July
Marriage is one of God’s greatest gifts, but also one of life’s greatest challenges. Therefore, we want to encourage couples to pursue marriages that thrive by the power of the gospel for the glory of God. The “Marriage Cohort” training seminar meets every second Sunday, beginning July 2023, from 3:30pm-5:00pm. Childcare may be available (if this is needed please see a host). A couple may join the cohort at any time, but they are encouraged to commit to the full twelve sessions. Please note: homework is given. Afterall, marriage takes work. Please see Sam & Abby Park, or, Dan and Danica Allen for more details.
Text Group | Sundays | 8:45-9:45 AM | Alverno classroom
Text Groups are weekly gatherings of individuals seeking to grow in their ability to read scripture. Each week someone prepares a worksheet on a different passage of scripture (typically from the current sermon series); and together we strive to improve in our ability to handle God’s Word. Texts Groups meet at various times throughout the week, with one Text Group occurring Sundays at 8:45 AM before the service.
Monthly Children’s Material
This month, our children will continue to work through their Gospel Story Bible lessons, the New City Catechism, our hymn of the month, and their monthly memory verse. Be sure to grab a copy of the hand motions for the memory verse at our Resource Table. View the full schedule and access these materials on our members' webpage. Parents, we encourage you to use and reinforce this material with your children in your family devotions!
The Pastoral Ministry of Richard Baxter with Tim Cooper (Church Theology Podcast)
Richard Baxter was a 17th-century English Puritan pastor best known for his rigorous and methodical approach to pastoral care. What can we today learn from Baxter about pastoring, what it looks like to be pastored, and the nature of the Christian life experienced within the church. Church history professor, Tim Cooper, joins Kirk to talk about the legacy of Baxter for the church today.
Why Baptism is Required for Church Membership with Bobby Jamieson (Church Theology Podcast)
Why does our church, and churches like ours, require people to be baptized before we will admit them as members of our church? In this episode Kirk is joined by Bobby Jamieson, associate pastor at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., to discuss the Biblical and theological reason for this practice.
What is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?
What exactly does it mean to be baptized in the Spirit? Is it a distinct event that occurs after conversion, as some maintain, or an integral part of salvation universally experienced by all believers? This article, Kirk’s latest at Word by Word, is essentially an articulation of Article 7 of the “Church Affirmations” in CrossWay’s Statement of Faith.
Onward: Engaging the Culture without Losing the Gospel by Russell Moore (Book Recommendation)
In Onward, Russell Moore provides a manifesto for Christian cultural engagement in a post-Christian society. As Christians, Moore calls us to embrace the “strangeness” of Christianity and to see an opportunity for Christian mission precisely in a society where a Christian veneer of nominalism is now out of style.

Current Series - The Gospel According to Mark | The Unexpected King
According to Mark, Jesus is the coming King who is bringing God's kingdom. But the sort of King he is, and the sort of kingdom he brings, is quite unexpected. Jesus is a king who suffers and serves. And he calls his followers, the citizens of his kingdom, to do likewise—to walk in his way and carry their cross.
